How to correctly choose multiwall polycarbonate

First Nuance — Choosing the Thickness:
Multiwall polycarbonate is usually produced in thicknesses ranging from 4 mm to 16 mm. The thickness not only affects the strength of the sheet but also its energy-saving qualities. To choose the optimal thickness of polycarbonate, you should consider the spacing of your support structure’s battens — thicker polycarbonate allows for larger distances between rafters.

What color to choose? Note that it’s not just about your taste — different colors of polycarbonate have different light transmission rates. Simply put, under one polycarbonate it will be cooler than under another. Most canopies are covered with dark-colored polycarbonate, such as bronze or brown. Of course, if you wish, you can make a canopy from bright polycarbonate. For greenhouses, transparent sheets are recommended.

The most important — UV protection and warranties:
In polycarbonate, there is something more important than color and thickness. It’s the presence of quality UV protection. Without it, the sheet will yellow and then start to disintegrate — all within 2−3 years!

The main problem is that the UV protective layer is not visible to the naked eye. And to purchase the right polycarbonate, you need to rely on a factor that confirms its presence documentarily, namely — the manufacturer’s warranty. For example, the "KIN" factory is responsible for the quality of WOGGEL polycarbonate for 20 years. This means that the sheet indeed has UV protection, which is applied evenly, in a concentrated layer, and the buyer does not have to worry about the preservation of the sheet.

Due to the peculiarities of the manufacturing process, the protection is applied to one side of the sheet — the side with the colored film. This is another important point to pay attention to — the sheets should be mounted with the colored film facing up, and the film should only be removed after installation — to avoid confusing the sides of the sheet.
